Biscoff Cheesecake Shoot.
For this shoot, i baked a biscoff cheesecake with the multiple layers and sliced it - placing it on a white circular plate with a black border. I then placed this on a white sheet which was placed over a table positioned near a window. I completed my shoot early in the morning to gain the lighting which i wanted to achieve. I then placed the plate in the centre of the frame with the cutlery beside it. I then placed the coffee diagonal to the plate of the cheesecake and the vogue book adjacent to that. I swapped out the vogue book for a plain, leather version of ‘Little Women’ mid-shoot but i preferred the version of the image with the Vogue book because i preferred the colour scheme. I took the photos using a Canon EOS 4000d DSLR camera and an iPhone XR, changing the settings dependent on the angle for both media types.
Original Image.
For this image, I placed my cheesecake on a circular, white plate with a black rim, with a knife and fork adjacent. The black rim of the plate almost gave an outline to the plate and the food, focusing the viewer’s natural eye to the centre of the circle - which held the cheesecake.
This composition with the black plate allowed for a more focused image which is ideal for commercial photography as you want the viewer to focus on the subject e.g. a product, food etc.
I then placed other objects in the frame, the espresso and the Vogue magazine book which is a technique used by David Loftus to set a theme or a mood to the image. Here, I used the espresso and Vogue book to create a glamourous food image, with the glamourous connotations brought from Vogue and the small espresso coffee to complement the cheesecake.
Creating this theme and mood is ideal for the cheesecake advertisement-style because it will increase the appeal to the dish, as people will almost feel more glamourous buying and eating the product.
Developments.
Final Image.
Firstly, for the developments of this image, I added an artificial light over the centre of the cheesecake to highlight and brought more attention to the centre of the cheesecake, as the natural light rate didn’t shine over where I wanted it to.
I also removed the unflattering residue on the edges of the espresso mug and made the centre of the coffee darker to create a more appealing image.
I also increased the exposure, highlights and decreased the temperature to created a cooler, blue-like tint to add the glamourous atmosphere because it added more of a monotonous tone.
Overall, these developments added to the overall glamorous atmosphere of the image, which was ideal for the advertisement of my image.
