Sofiane Samlal [Samsofy] is a French 'plastician' photographer born in Lyon in 1981. Some of his first work began in extreme sports photography in the urban areas of France. His artistic approach today is "focused around the very appreciated small yellow characters" - 'Legographie'. He combines different techniques of photography (eg. Street art, model making and installation) and his message across his work often mixes politics, humour and poetry. He often plays with scales when photographing Lego and plays with the perceptions of the natural eye, creating images where the miniature Lego appears larger than in reality. Originally, Samsofy started his 'Legographie' concept when his son was born. He decided to stop working to take care of him and in his spare time he "created universes with [his] lego", it later became his full-time profession. This links to my theme of 'The World Around Us' because it portrays a different 'World' to our own, one that involves these "small yellow characters", and how we can create this 'World' ourselves.
